A day to honor freedom
America continues to be recognized as “the land of the free and home of the brave.” Today especially, we honor our fallen soldiers who had the courage to serve our country so that many more may live in freedom.
Nothing else compares to that sacrifice, but among we who enjoy those freedoms, I think of a group that answers a call to duty each day. Cattlemen and women bring courage and passion to the daily tasks they perform on the ranch. They fully commit themselves sunup to sundown (or should I say, until the cows come home), to raise the highest quality of beef for consumers, and they are my heroes in more ways than one.
Memorial Day kicks off summer grilling season as the king of grilling holidays. With that, what better way to celebrate this (or any holiday for that matter), than with a juicy grilled Certified Angus Beef ® steak?
“BEEF: It’s What’s For Dinner,” has always been a favorite saying of mine. I am honored to join the Certified Angus Beef ® brand team as the 2015 Industry Information summer intern, and look forward to learning from some of the industry’s most knowledgeable producers! I just finished up my junior year at the University of Minnesota, where I am studying agricultural education – communications and leadership. A Minnesota native, I live on a hobby farm where my family and I raise cattle and sheep. If you have ever experienced Minnesota winters (or even a Minnesota fall or spring), you can probably agree that there is nothing more welcoming than a warm, sunny summer day come the end of May.
This year, I will be spending Memorial Day weekend photographing a beef show in Minnesota. What more could I ask for than spending the weekend with my family, close friends and quality cattle? After a long couple of days at the show, I know I will be craving a beefy dinner.
Whether or not it’s sunny and 75, Memorial Day is sure to offer warm thoughts, bring families together and present a valid excuse to fire up the grill!

Progress from small steps
Every day is a chance to learn and get better. Thousands of others like my new friends in Alabama are taking steps to meet the shifts in consumer demand, and to know more. Small steps in the right direction can start now. Even if it’s just recording a snapshot of where you are today, a benchmark for tomorrow.
Not perfect, but working to get better
The CAB Cattleman Connection team heard its name called more than once in the virtual ceremonies, and each time came a sense of personal accomplishment, but even better: confirmation that we’re getting better at our craft. I hope that means we’re doing a better job for you.
Beefed up findings
Frank Mitloehner presents his findings on the animal ag sector’s impact on global warming. He explains how cattle counterbalance other fossil fuel sectors, proving that cattle are a solution and not a threat.
